US-ASEAN Business Council Engages with Cambodian Ministry of Health on Healthcare Investment

Phnom Penh: The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, Professor Koy Vanny, representing Minister Chheang Ra, recently welcomed a delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC). The delegation, led by US-ABC Board Member Jack Myint, comprised representatives from eight pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Minister of Health, Professor Vanny acknowledged the US-ABC's contributions to Cambodia's health sector. This includes the provision of essential medical equipment, medications, and vaccines which have played a crucial role in enhancing diagnosis, treatment, and overall healthcare for the Cambodian populace.

Jack Myint, head of the US-ABC delegation, commended the strides made in the Cambodian health sector, attributing the progress to the dedication of health leaders and workers at all levels. Discussions between the two parties centered on augmenting trade and investment in Cambodia's healthcare system, emphasizing adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks, fair pricing, and the assurance of safety and quality.

Professor Vanny urged the US-ABC to explore further collaboration beyond investment. He suggested efforts in several key areas, including bolstering the healthcare system through capacity building, infrastructure development, and enhancing primary care services. Other focal points for cooperation included specialized nutrition training for critical care patients, community mental health programs, continued cancer care partnership, and the advancement of local health workers' skills, alongside technology transfers to Cambodian medical professionals.

In closing, Professor Vanny extended thanks to the US-ABC delegation for their ongoing support and contribution to the health sector, affirming the Ministry's commitment to achieving universal health coverage. This goal is part of the broader strategic plan of the Royal Government's seventh mandate, guided by the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
